(WXYZ) — Three dispensaries are now licensed to sell recreational marijuana in Michigan.
The shops are Greenstone Provisions and Arbors Wellness in Ann Arbor, which join Exclusive Brands in Ann Arbor.
They are the only three licensed recreational marijuana shops in Michigan.
The Ann Arbor shops are expected to open their doors to customers on Sunday.
Licensing officials expect nearly a dozen more businesses to be licensed by the new year.
State issues first 5 recreational marijuana licenses
LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency has issued its first five recreational marijuana licenses.
According to a spokesperson for the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the licenses will allow those facilities to sell recreational marijuana on Dec. 1.
The licenses went to PSI Labs, a testing firm in Ann Arbor, Real Leaf Solutions in Kalkaska and Exclusive Brands in Ann Arbor, which has a grow operation, processing facility and dispensary.
PSI Labs posted about the news on Facebook.
"Today, PSI Labs became Michigan's first Safety Compliance Facility to receive an adult-use license! We feel truly privileged and honored to be in this position, and appreciate our brilliant, dedicated staff for all their hard work!" the company said.
Last week, the state said businesses that are licensed to grow, process or sell marijuana for medical use can transfer half their inventory to the recreational marijuana market on Dec. 1 if they have the licenses.
Dispensaries will be able to transfer half of each type of marijuana product but only if it has been in inventory for at least 30 days.
It was expected that recreational marijuana couldn't be for sale until around April 2020, but that changed with the rules the agency put out last week.
